In this article, I am going to impart to you a shocking truth: learning how to invest in the stock market is not for everyone. While everyone can buy stock, not everyone is going to make money off of investing in stocks, at least not any significant money.

Wall St really is for the "1%"

I know what you are saying – the stock market is a zero sum game and just because some people are winners does not mean everyone has to be a loser. This is not what I am talking about. The problem is that overall there are very few big winners, and the ones that are big winners generally made very risky moves to get there.

The problem has little to do with winning or losing but the fundamental business principle known as barrier to entry. There is no barrier to entry into the stock market: anyone can buy stock if they have money. By default, any investment or business model with no barrier to entry is going to be the least profitable and riskiest model just because it is easy to do.

To simplify, buying stock is for lazy people who have nothing better to do with their money or those that are so rich they cannot effectively manage their money in the right type of investment. The first group has no business in the stock market, whereas the second group turns their tens of millions of dollars into slightly more money over time. Turning 50 million dollars into 300 million dollars is a good deal for the rich man. Turning 200,000 into 1,200,000 for the poor man is not as good as it sounds.

What I mean by this is that you will nickel and dime your way through life just to retire rich. It is not a very attractive proposition, as I like to buy the simple things that keep me happy rather than grinding my way to riches for pennies. It just is a counter-intuitive system and somewhat crazy, yet we are fed that this is the right road to wealth.

I think that the only way for a normal person to transcend their class and become rich is to really put their money to work for them in the form of starting a business or inventing and promoting some product or idea. This is the only way to generate true wealth in our short lifetimes.
